Wildlife Support

To the right you can see some misguided wildlife support. I received 5 kg of premium large parrot feed from our lovely landlady, so I got a bird feeder and was trying to attract the king parrots that occasionally come visit our backyard. Just to cheer me up when I sit in front of the computer at home. Well, as you can see, some much bigger and furrier friends took advantage of that at night. Hanging from its tail, it was too easy for this possum to reach face first into the feeder and munch away like there is no tomorrow. So we better leave the wildlife support to the pros 🙂

Actually this is supposed to be about something else though. As my last bigger contract recently ended and I received money, it was time to donate again! This time, one percent of the gross income went to Wildlife Queensland! They are a non-profit local wildlife and habitat conservation organisation with their head office just down the road from us. Many of their projects (e.g. Platypus Watch or the Queensland Glider Network) revolve around monitoring endangered species. Supporting citizen science initiatives is also one of their strategies. Last year, Wildlife Queensland also supported the Forests for Everyone campaign. It advocates for turning state forest with no legal protection into conservation areas. This as actually an initiative that I am volunteering for occasionally!

Here are Hannah, Matt and me advocating for Protect Beautiful Queensland at a trail running event. I could have donated directly to them, but I thought I’d support one organisation with manpower and the other monetarily. Not sure of this is the best strategy, but I’m confident Wildlife Queensland also does a good job and deserves the donation!
