My third donation goes to the Queensland Conservation Council (QCC), the local umbrella organisation for climate action and nature conservation. Every time a contract ends, I donate 1% of the gross income received to organisations that are working to battle climate change and habitat destruction (see About section). It’s a littl different this time, because I am personally involved with QCC. Dedicating some of my free time as a volunteer, I help running their online shop for the distribution of “Climate Action Now” and “Stand Up for Nature” signs and stickers. This was especially important before and during the last elections. Putting up the signs on their fences or displaying them in windows or shopfronts shows the local government representatives that people care about nature and climate in Queensland and demand change!

The state of the world is dire and it is important go out and do something about it instead of complaining and resigning. Community-based action is empowering and helps you get out of that blues. It may not be the most efficient, it may not have the most leverage, but it does make a difference! QCC runs many people powered actions, relying heavily on volunteers. They put a lot of effort into impacting the recent elections in Australia. Now it is time to monitor the Labour government’s environmental committees to make sure they stick to their promises. The organisation also has a lawsuit going against the expansion of the Lake Vermont Coal Mine that is in need of financial support. Chip in if you can or support a local organisation near you to take action. Be it by dedicating some time or donating some money – especially if you have the privilege to do so.
